Getting Started

How long does it take to set up PharmaGenius?

Most pharmacies are fully operational on PharmaGenius within two to three business days. The setup involves connecting your pharmacy management system, importing your drug database and patient records, configuring your insurance contracts, and training your team on the interface.

Our onboarding team handles the technical integration. Your staff can typically start using core features like drug interaction checking and prescription processing on day one, with insurance claims and compliance features going live by day three.

Does PharmaGenius integrate with my existing pharmacy management system?

Yes. PharmaGenius integrates with all major pharmacy management systems including QS/1, Rx30, PioneerRx, Liberty, BestRx, and Computer-Rx. We also support HL7 and NCPDP standards for custom integrations. PharmaGenius works alongside your existing system — it does not replace it. Think of it as an AI layer that enhances what your current system already does.

Do I need to install any special hardware?

No. PharmaGenius is entirely cloud-based. You access it through any modern web browser on your existing computers, tablets, or phones. There is no hardware to install, no servers to maintain, and no IT department required. All updates are automatic.

Is there a contract or long-term commitment?

No long-term contracts. PharmaGenius is month-to-month with no cancellation fees. Annual plans are available at a discount (two months free), but there is no penalty for switching to monthly or canceling. We earn your business every month by delivering measurable value to your pharmacy operations.

Clinical & Safety

How accurate is the drug interaction checking?

PharmaGenius uses a comprehensive drug interaction database that is updated daily with FDA safety communications, new drug approvals, and published interaction studies. The system checks drug-drug, drug-food, drug-allergy, drug-condition, and therapeutic duplication interactions across the patient's complete medication profile.

Interactions are severity-graded (severe, moderate, mild) with clinical evidence citations. PharmaGenius is a clinical decision support tool — the pharmacist always makes the final dispensing decision. The AI ensures no interaction goes unchecked, but clinical judgment remains with the licensed professional.

Does PharmaGenius replace the pharmacist's clinical judgment?

Absolutely not. PharmaGenius is a decision support tool that ensures your pharmacists have complete, accurate information for every clinical decision. It flags interactions, generates counseling points, and identifies potential issues — but the pharmacist always makes the final call on dispensing, patient counseling, and prescriber communication.

Think of it as a highly reliable colleague who never forgets to check something, not a replacement for professional expertise.

How does PharmaGenius handle controlled substance prescriptions?

PharmaGenius includes built-in controls for Schedule II-V medications. It validates DEA numbers and prescriber authorization, enforces quantity limits and refill restrictions, maintains perpetual inventory with automated reconciliation, queries the state PDMP before dispensing, and generates DEA-compliant transaction logs automatically.

Discrepancies in controlled substance counts trigger immediate alerts. All controlled substance activities are logged with timestamps, user identification, and transaction details for regulatory compliance.

Can PharmaGenius check interactions for OTC medications and supplements?

Yes. When OTC medications and dietary supplements are recorded in the patient's profile, PharmaGenius screens for interactions with prescription medications. This includes common interactions like warfarin with vitamin K supplements, statins with grapefruit, and MAOIs with tyramine-containing foods. Pharmacists can add OTC and supplement entries during counseling sessions.

Compliance & Security

Is PharmaGenius HIPAA compliant?

Yes. PharmaGenius is built from the ground up for HIPAA compliance. All protected health information (PHI) is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest using AES-256 encryption. We maintain comprehensive audit trails for all data access, support role-based access controls, and execute a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with every customer.

Our infrastructure is hosted on SOC 2 Type II certified cloud providers within the United States. We conduct annual third-party security assessments and maintain a formal incident response plan.

Does PharmaGenius help with DEA compliance?

Yes. PharmaGenius automates many DEA compliance requirements including controlled substance perpetual inventory, transaction logging for receipts and dispensing, biennial inventory support, DEA Form 222 tracking for Schedule II orders, and discrepancy reporting. All records are maintained in audit-ready format and can be produced immediately during an inspection.

How does PharmaGenius handle PDMP reporting?

PharmaGenius automatically submits dispensing data to state Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs as required by each state's reporting timeline. During the dispensing workflow, the system also queries the PDMP to display the patient's controlled substance history, helping pharmacists identify potential misuse patterns. PDMP integration is available for all 50 states.

Where is patient data stored?

All data is stored in the United States on SOC 2 Type II certified infrastructure. We do not store data in offshore locations. Backups are encrypted and stored in geographically separated US data centers for disaster recovery. You own your data and can export it at any time.

Insurance & Claims

Which insurance networks does PharmaGenius support?

PharmaGenius supports claims submission to all major PBMs and insurance networks through NCPDP D.0 standard transactions. This includes CVS Caremark, Express Scripts, OptumRx, Humana, MedImpact, and hundreds of regional and state Medicaid plans. If your current pharmacy system can bill an insurer, PharmaGenius can automate the claims workflow for that payer.

How does PharmaGenius handle rejected claims?

When a claim is rejected, PharmaGenius analyzes the rejection code and presents the pharmacist with a clear resolution pathway. Common rejections — prior authorization required, refill too soon, quantity limits exceeded, DAW code issues — are identified with specific recommended actions. For many rejection types, PharmaGenius can initiate the resolution automatically (submitting a PA request, adjusting the DAW code, or suggesting a therapeutic alternative).

Does PharmaGenius support 340B program management?

Yes, on the Enterprise plan. PharmaGenius helps 340B-eligible entities manage split billing, track 340B-eligible patients and prescriptions, maintain compliance with HRSA audit requirements, and prevent duplicate discounts. The system generates reports for 340B program audits and monitors compliance in real time.

Billing & Plans

What happens after the 14-day free trial?

At the end of your trial, you choose a plan and enter payment information. If you do not subscribe, your account is paused — you can still log in and export your data for 90 days, but automated features stop. There is no surprise charge and no credit card is taken during the trial.

Can I change plans or add locations later?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. If you open a new location, you can add it to your account instantly on the Professional or Enterprise plans.

Do you offer discounts for independent pharmacy buying groups?

Yes. We offer volume discounts for pharmacy buying groups and cooperative members. If your buying group has five or more member pharmacies interested in PharmaGenius, contact us at [email protected] for group pricing.
